Whitesands is a husband-and-wife operation. Every clinic, camp and lesson is coached personally by Gareth or Jocelyn — no rotating staff, no hand-offs.

Gareth Houben

Four-time Ontario Provincial Beach Volleyball Champion and former National Tour beach athlete. Gareth played indoor volleyball at the University of Western Ontario and represented Canada with the Indoor National Masters Team. He brings an old school, skills first approach to the game, with focus on high repetition of individual skills performed the right way.

Jocelyn Houben

Former National Tour beach volleyball athlete and a Provincial Championship-winning coach with the 13UG Barrie Elites United (2026). Jocelyn leads the junior camps and clinics, with focus on mechanics and also on the mental side of the game.

Kristina (Valjas) May

2016 Rio Olympian and FIVB World Tour Gold Medalist, Kristina brings world-class beach volleyball experience to our sand. She joins Whitesands periodically to share the technical, tactical, and mental tools that took her to the top of the international game.
